Whimsical Wednesday

Mr Monopoly

Every Wednesday I’m posting a photograph which highlights the whimsical nature of London. As a tour guide, I get to see a lot of astonishing things while researching my walks and I will use this blog series as a means of sharing these sights with you.

mrmonopolysohoA couple of months ago, I stumbled upon this graffiti of Mr Monopoly while I was doing a spot of Christmas shopping. Universally recognisable, this popular board game mascot is officially known as Rich Uncle Pennybags. (Hands up, who knew the mustachioed fellow’s full name?) I’m wondering if the sudden appearance of this capitalistic icon on a wall in Soho might be a commentary about the area’s recent gentrification problems?

queenyogaOnly in Shoreditch, East London, could you witness the Queen of England, dressed in her best yoga attire, levitating on an cloud of tea. Talk about a storm in a teacup! Which type of tea do you think the Queen likes to float on? (I will go with Earl Grey!)
